Cruising the Eastern Caribbean: The Island Life

If you are looking for some of the most amazing ports in the world, you’ll find them cruising the Eastern Caribbean! The island nations located on the eastern boarder of the Caribbean have everything from perfect beaches and inspiring views to quaint towns you will never forget and everything you can expect from an island paradise.

Eastern Caribbean Ports: Caribbean Cruise Destinations

Most of the Eastern Caribbean consists of island nations and, as such, there are a number of intriguing places for ships to call in. Below are some of the top ports if cruising the Eastern Caribbean.

Charlotte Amalie’s Saint Thomas port is a popular stop for cruises to the US Virgin Islands. It is one of the most visited ports with both the town and island well prepared to cater for visitors. Some of the most loved features of this stop include duty-free shopping, the historic district and the lovely Magens Bay. Saint Thomas is included in many itineraries cruising the Eastern Caribbean and it is the Havensight Pier and Crown Pier that welcome ships to dock. These two docks are able to handle as many as six ships at the same time.

The capital of St Kitts and Nevis is Basseterre and it is also one of the oldest in this region. The lush green appearance of the island of St Kitts is one of its most attractive features. Thanks to eco-tourism and careful development, the natural beauty has been very well preserved. Port Zante welcomes cruise ships to dock and, due to the demand, this dock can handle the kind of massive vessels that other ports cannot.

Anyone who has already had the pleasure of visiting St. Lucia will agree that it is a gem in every way. It is the perfect picture of a tropical paradise thanks to its lush greenery and impressive tall mountains. The rainforests of this island are lovingly protected by the locals and many tours and activities involve the rainforest and water sports in the wonderful clear waters nearby. Place Carenage and Pointe Seraphine both welcome cruise ships to dock and they are both located close to the centre of the island’s capital, Castries.

Philipsburg in St Maarten is a vibrant and busy place with perfect white beaches. In fact, there are gorgeous beaches all over the island so there are plenty of spots perfect for swimming and sunbathing! If you are looking for a reasonably priced electronic item or alcohol, you can do some duty free shopping in St Maarten. Not far from the port you will find the French nation of St Martin which means that cruisers are able to experience both on the same trip! There is also a pier and cruise terminal in Philipsburg which is no more than one mile from the downtown area.

Many cruises include Barbados as a destination and some use it as a departure point for some of their cruises. The country is known for its safe, friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The southern and western coasts have experienced fairly heavy developments while the east coast remains wild as the rugged shore meets the raging Atlantic Ocean. The Bridgetown Cruise Terminal welcomes ships to dock n the capital city and it’s conveniently close to the downtown area.

Eastern Caribbean Cruises: Princess, Royal Caribbean and Many More

The Caribbean is an extremely popular area for most top cruise lines. Just about every cruise line offers itineraries in the Caribbean. The most common ships to frequent these waters are those of princess, Royal Caribbean and other North American lines. Cruisers can find anything from small ship luxury cruises to megaship adventures and everything in between. Celebrity and Carnival ships also frequent these waters and smaller ports are visited by Seabourn and other luxury lines.

Most Eastern Caribbean cruises are round trips from main cruise ports in Miami or Fort Lauderdale, Florida or, on occasion, New York. For cruises departing in the region itself, Barbados is a common departure point.
